Year 4 maths games
Year 4 is the times tables year: by the end of it, children are expected to recall every multiplication fact up to 12 × 12, and in June they sit the Multiplication Tables Check. Fractions move on to families of equivalent fractions and the first decimals.
Here is what Year 4 maths covers, which Clarendium games match it at the Year 4 level, and a free level to try now.

What children learn in Year 4 maths
In summary, the national curriculum for England asks Year 4 children to cover:
- All times tables up to 12 × 12. Recall of multiplication and division facts, multiplying three numbers, and multiplying two- and three-digit numbers by a one-digit number.
- Place value to 10,000. Four-digit numbers, counting in 6s, 7s, 9s, 25s and 1,000s, negative numbers, rounding and Roman numerals to 100.
- Adding and subtracting four-digit numbers. With the column method, estimating first and checking with the inverse.
- Fractions and decimals. Families of equivalent fractions, counting in hundredths, adding and subtracting fractions with the same denominator, and decimals to two places, including 1/4 = 0.25 and 1/2 = 0.5.
- Measurement and money. Converting units, perimeter and area by counting squares, money in pounds and pence, and 12- and 24-hour time.
- Geometry and statistics. Comparing angles, symmetry, coordinates, and bar charts and time graphs.
Which Clarendium games fit Year 4
With “Year 4” chosen as the practice level (the button above sets it), the worlds pitch their questions at Year 4:
- Multiply Mountain (multiplication): multiplication facts drawn as equal groups, from tables up to 8 × 8 at base camp to every table up to 12 × 12 at the summit, including the 11 and 12 times tables.
- Fraction Falls (fractions): thirds, quarters, fifths, sixths and eighths of shapes. Choose Year 5 for equivalent fractions such as 2/3 = ?/9, the Year 4 fractions focus.
- Number Grove (addition): two- and three-digit addition, with hints that split numbers into easier steps.
- Subtraction Shores (subtraction): larger subtractions, each checked by adding back.
Not covered yet: division, decimals, measurement and money. Clarendium is not a Multiplication Tables Check simulator; it has no timer.
What parents see
Each stage is five questions, and four right completes it. The progress page shows which stages your child has completed in each world and their recent scores; the parent report for the Moonwell story also separates guided practice from independent answers. Everything stays in this browser, with no child account.

Questions parents ask
Are these Year 4 maths games free?
Yes. Every world is free to play now in the browser. Memberships are planned but not open; the only sign-up is a parent waitlist with a parent email.
What is the Year 4 Multiplication Tables Check?
A short on-screen check taken in June of Year 4: 25 questions on tables up to 12 × 12, with 6 seconds per question. Results go to the school; there is no pass mark.
Does Clarendium help with the Multiplication Tables Check?
It builds the understanding behind the facts, with each question shown as equal groups. It is untimed, so pair it with short, low-pressure recall practice nearer June.
My child is in Year 4. Should they also play the Moonwell?
Yes. The Moonwell story chapter on the home page is written for England Year 4 and is all about equivalent fractions.
